Just over a year after their gorgeous FireRock Wedding, I had the pleasure of photographing Emily and John again (you can see a few clips in my promo video!) for a fun anniversary session. It’s always a blast to hang out with them, and this was no exception. Emily is a talented photographer/videographer, you can check out her work here!
I love this family. My sweet friend Leah welcomed her beautiful baby girl, and I had the honour of documenting the four of them in their home (Special mention to big brother Asher’s curls…. ugh, I can’t handle the cuteness!). Here are some faves.
I always say this, but I love getting to know families over time. This was my 2nd session with this gorgeous family (we’re up to three now, slowly catching up on my blogging!), and it’s so fun to see Cole growing up over the years. Such a handsome little dude, and such a beautiful family. Here are some favourites!
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and photographing Alyssa and Jacob for their engagement session, and again for their Canadian wedding celebration following their elopement. They held a beautiful reception for their close friends and family at the beautiful CASO station in St Thomas, and I was lucky enough to capture a few portraits of them along with some family photos. I have such incredibly fond memories of this day. I knew Emily and Mike’s wedding would be special just from having photographed their engagement session. These two have such a beautiful connection and are full of life and joy. But when I showed up to their ceremony in the woods, I was blown away. It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of private property weddings with lots of character, but this magical clearing in the woods with the sun streaming in through the trees literally took my breath away. My pal and second-shooter-for-the-day Lea and I looked at each other like, are you kidding me? As if a fairytale-like setting wasn’t enough, their ceremony (and entire day) was full of deeply personal touches. I can still hear Neil Young’s Harvest Moon every time I look at these images. It’s the song Emily’s brother played during Mike and Emily’s ceremony while all of their guests sang along in unison. An enchanted forest acoustic sing-along? Yes PLEASE. This day was one for the books, and I’m so excited to finally be sharing it on the blog.

This was such a fun, beautiful day. I love weddings that take place on private family properties, because they have such a laid back feel and are bound to have so many fun, personal touches. I’ve had so much fun looking back through 2018’s family, engagement and newborn lifestyle sessions over the past week, and it’s all been leading up to this massive wedding post. I’ve gone through the images so many times and there are still far more photos here than there probably should be. But I’ve never been one to keep things brief, so here we are. ;) So many amazing couples, so many gorgeous and unique locations, so many incredible vendors that I’ve had the privilege of working with. I can’t wait to blog all of these weddings individually, but for now here are my 2018 favourites in one big heap. Enjoy!
I wish you could have seen me putting this blog post together. First of all, it took a very long time. But most importantly, I smiled from ear to ear the entire time. So many beautiful families. So many favourites. So many. Some obvious ones that I previewed on social media and were stand-out favourites from the very beginning, and some that I had completely forgotten about, that for some reason didn’t really grab me during the editing process but made my heart sing during this yearly review.
As always, I feel the need to point out that my initial selection was so large it was ridiculous. In fact, one might argue that this selection is ridiculously lengthy. But I can only narrow them down so much, ya know? At the end of the day, whether a session appears in this compilation or not, I am so eternally grateful to each family that trusted me with capturing their memories - some for the first time in 2018, and some for the 8th time. It sounds so cliche, and we photographers like to throw around phrases like “I want to tell your story” and “capture your milestones” and “document your real life”… but it’s the truth. It’s why I do what I do.
Looking through all of these images made me so excited about the upcoming shooting season. For now though, I’m still reminiscing about the incredible year that was 2018. Here are some favourites!
I’m continuing my 2018 reminiscing this week with my favourite images from newborn lifestyle sessions - both in-home and in-hospital. I love capturing fresh babies in this simple, unobtrusive, organic way - in their element, surrounded by family, no frills. You’ll see lots of sibling interactions featured here as well, sometimes without the new baby present. I chose to include these images, as they are such a big component of newborn lifestyle sessions involving older siblings. Often while baby is being fed or soothed by one parent, the other parent is hanging with big brothers and/or sisters, and those candid interactions are just as precious. In these instances, I find myself travelling between rooms, capturing the quiet soothing in one and the enthusiastic play in the other. Here are my 2018 favourites.
While I’m not quite up to blogging my 2018 sessions, I’m so thrilled to be sharing my best of 2018 this week - a collection of favourite images from the past year. Today I’m pulling from my 2018 engagement sessions, which spanned every season and so many different locations. I always have such a terrible time culling favourites, because I have a special attachment to each couple, each session, each location. But I based these selections on things like emotion, light, composition, and the feeling that each image elicits in me as a photographer. More than anything, going through these photos made me so thankful for the opportunity to work with so many amazing people, and so excited for all of the upcoming weddings I get to document!
